The main objective of the project is to promote and enhance the sustainable development of the region through the creation of cross-border networks of cooperation and joint action for the Thracian and Byzantine heritage in the Rhodope Mountains and the northern coast of the Aegean Sea.

The project objectives are:

• Promotion, protection and development of cultural values ​​of cross Thracian and Byzantine heritage of the Rhodope Mountains and the northern coast of the Aegean Sea, by developing integrated tourism products, contributing to employment and better living conditions for the local population
• Enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of transgrnichniya region by improving the cultural and historical Thracian and Byzantine heritage in order to improve the quality of life through the implementation of joint activities in this field, aimed at creating a diversification of the tourism product and the attractiveness of the region and co-development the region and the well-being of the local population
• Establishment of the Bulgarian-Greek consultative exchange in relation to decisions and activities related to the conservation and efficient use of shared cultural and historical products in the border region
• Raising the awareness of local people about the existence of a unique Thracian and Byzantine heritage in their hometowns
• Ensure smooth performance, quality management and coordination of project activities with clear involvement of project partners

The main activities included in the project are:

• Study the Rhodope Mountains and the northern coast of the Aegean Sea sites related to Thracian and Byzantine culture and suitable for future socialization and inclusion in overall tourism product.
• Completion of the GIS database with information on tourism infrastructure, routes and mestorazpolozheniya ancient Thracian and Byzantine sanctuaries and strongholds in the border region,
• Research and socialization of two sites in the municipality of Smolyan, including engineering (design and implementation) of the conservation and restoration works (CRE) of the two fortresses:
– Kale Fortress in PA “Bride-Turluka” near Smolyan;
– Fortress Kale above passage cave near the village of Basket, Municipality Smolyan
• Preparation of a management plan for the two forts;
• Conduct joint Bulgarian – Greek scientific conferences and seminars and prepare scientific reports and publications;
• Identify objects Thracian and Byzantine heritage and development of cultural routes identified sites;
• Development of a joint marketing strategy to develop cultural tourism routes;
• Promoting the project and new tourism products through a joint Greek-balgraro marketing strategy;
• Bulgarian-Greek familiarization tours for journalists and tour operators;

• Enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of common cross-border tourism products;
